45-Day Fishing Ban Imposed In Eastern Coastal Zone

The 45-day fishing ban in the eastern coastal zone has been enforced from today , Wednesday. The fishermen are not venturing out into the sea from Tuesday night.

The ban for mechanized boats is enforced for fish species propagation under the Tamil Nadu Fisheries Regulation Act, 1983.

The step will help safeguard fish in their breeding season and increase the fish catch. The fisheries authorities have stopped issuing tokens for fishing from last night.

In Ramanathapuram and Nagapattinam district, more than 20,000 fishermen have not ventured out into the sea for fishing.

It is hard times for fishermen for the next one and a half months. This is the time they repair their fishing boats and mend their fishing nets. Till the end of May, the fishermen are solely dependent on their personal savings, government aid and help from Fishermen Co-operative Society.
