CPI(M) Wednesday demanded a judicial inquiry into the killing of 20 people during a police operation against red sanders smugglers in Andhra Pradesh.
It alleged that ordinary workers have become the target of what it called police brutality and demanded compensation for their kin.
The party also raised questions over the encounter in Telangana where five under trial prisoners, alleged to be associated with SIMI, were killed.
In a statement issued in New Delhi, the party said it was premeditated action by police to avenge the killing of two of its personnel.
