Army Major shot dead by soldier at LoC in north Kashmir

An Army Major was shot dead by his subordinate at a forward post near the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector in north Kashmir district of Baramulla.

Defence Ministry spokesperson Colonel Rajesh Kalia told UNI that a soldier fired at a Major after an altercation.

The officer died on the spot, he said, adding a case has been registered and an investigation has been initiated into the incident.

Meanwhile, official sources told UNI that Major Shikhar Thapa of 71 Armed Regiment presently posted with 8 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) confiscated the phone of the jawan at a forward post during a surprise checking. “This angered the jawan, who fired at Major Thapa, resulting in his death on the spot,” they said.

The jawan has been taken into custody, they added.
