The Inter Ministerial Committee on Prices and Availability of essential food items Monday reviewed the current status of the arrival of imported pulses and onion in New Delhi. During the meeting, it was informed that arrival of the imported five thousand Metric Tonne of Tur will begin from 23 of this month and the entire consignment will reach Indian Ports by 20th of next month.
An official release said, import of additional 5000 tonnes of Tur has also been approved to further improve the availability. MMTC has already floated a tender for the procurement. One thousand tonne onion is expected to arrive at Mumbai Port by 1st week of next month and another 1000 tonne by 2nd and 3rd week of next month.
MMTC has also floated a tender for import of another one thousand tonne onion on 11th of this month.The import of Tur and onion is expected to improve the availability of these commodities which will help moderate their prices.
According to official sources the retail price of Tur in Delhi is Rs 132 per kilogram and the onion Rs 60. In wholesale market, the Tur is selling at Rs 119 per Kilogram and onion at Rs 40.
