Central Bureau of Investigation, CBI has arrested a Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax from Delhi for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh. The Agency has also arrested the bribe giver who was acting as middleman.
According to the Investigating Agency, It is alleged that the payment was being made on behalf of an assessee, in lieu of extending undue favour in a tax evasion case.
The CBI has registered a case against the Income Tax official. It also conducted searches at 12 locations including the office and residential premises of the accused in Delhi, Ghaziabad and Pondicherry and recovered incriminating documents.
The arrested accused were produced today before the designated Court at Delhi and remanded to police custody for 3 days.
