The Home Ministry has placed the international funding organisation the ‘Ford Foundation’ on its watch list.
The Ministry took this decision on the basis of inputs received from security agencies. It was found that ‘Ford Foundation’ has been funding those entities which are not registered under Foreign Contribution Regulation Act, and such activities amount to serious violation of Act.
After the decision now all funds coming from the US arm of the foundation will have to be cleared by the Home Ministry.
A letter from the ministry has asked the Reserve Bank to instruct all banks and their branches to ensure that any flow of funds from Ford to be brought to the ministry’s notice.
The ministry also wants to ensure that the funds are utilised for bonafide welfare activities without compromising on concerns of national interest and security.
