Govt releases 25 % of PM’s development package of Rs 80,000 cr to J&K

27 April, New Delhi

Centre has released around 19 thousand crore rupees so far under the development package of Jammu and Kashmir. This was disclosed at a high-level inter-ministerial meeting chaired by Home Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi Wednesday.

In 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced a package of 80 thousand crore rupees for the state. During the meeting, Mr Singh took stock of the progress of various development initiatives announced for the state. Sources said it was conveyed in the meeting that 25 per cent of funds from the total package has been released so far and development related works are going on.

The successful implementation of the mega package is key to assuage the feeling of alienation in Jammu and Kashmir.

The meeting was attended by representatives from various central ministries and departments, and the state government. The meeting assumes significance in the backdrop of state Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s meeting with Prime Minister and Home Minister on Monday. The state is facing unrest for the past few months.
