India Votes To Raise Palestinian Flag At UN

11 September, New York

The UN General Assembly has overwhelmingly voted in favour of a motion allowing the Palestinian flag to be flown in front of UN buildings.

India was among 119 nations that voted in support. Israel and the US were among the eight countries that voted against.

Palestinian UN ambassador Riyad Mansour hailed the historic vote, calling it another step towards fulfillment of the promise of independence made to the Palestinian people nearly seven decades ago. Palestine became an observer state in 2012.
