Jena urges Radha Mohan to extend procurement date of ground nut for Odisha farmers

Former Union Minister Srikant jena Monday requested Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh to extend the procurement date of groundnut for a month in the interest of the farmers of Odisha.

In a letter to the Union Minister, Jena said groundnut farmers of Odisha are facing serious difficulties due to non-procurement by NAFED after August 31 last.The extension of the procurement date will enable NAFED to procure groundnut from farmers and prevent distress sale of their produce.

Jena said the farmers are selling their groundnut at Rs 2700 to Rs 2800 per quintal against the Minimum support price of Rs 4220 per quintal fixed by the government.

He said the state government had already requested for the extension of the procurement date.Jena requested the Union Minister to intervene and extend the procurement date to help the farmers get right price for their produce.
