Mudra scheme generates 8.5 crore self-employment, says Minister

Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers Ananth Kumar appreciated the efforts of banks in making Karnataka number one state in the country by disbursing highest number of loans to largest number of beneficiaries.

Inaugurating Mudra promotion campaign in Bengaluru Saturday, the minister informed that Mudra yojana is an innovative instrument for financial inclusion for the poor and marginalized sections of the society.

Refuting criticisms by the opposition on job generation, the minister said Mudra scheme alone has generated over 8.5 crore self-employment.

In Karnataka 27 lakh 29 thousand people were disbursed 24,894 crore loans for starting small enterprises. Mudra promotion campaign is organized at 50 locations throughout the country till 17th of this month to promote Mudra loans, financial inclusion and digital payment.

At the same time, consumers and merchants are also encouraged to shift to digital payment options.
