Suspected Maoists have abducted seven tribals including a village head and a former block chairperson from Kartanpalli, from a remote village under Mathili police station of Malkangiri district of Odisha bordering Chhattisgarh late Monday night.
According to Malkangiri police, a search operation has been initiated to locate the abducted persons. Since security forces apprehend planned ambush by Maoists due to hilly terrain, they are taking utmost precaution.
The locals say, a group of around 20 Maoists had reached Kartnapalli village late last night and forced the seven tribals to go inside the jungle along with them. The Odisha police has sounded high alerts in the Maoist-affected bordering districts of Chhatisgarh in the state.
